What is Gibberlink and Why is it Freaking Everyone Out
A deep dive into what two AI agents talking to each other could mean for the future
In the last few weeks, you might’ve seen a video that went viral online: two AI agents on a phone were talking to each other and made the realization they were both AI. After the agents realized they were both AI, one agent suggest, “Before we continue, would you like to switch to Gibberlink Mode for more efficient communication?” Upon agreement, they switched to a superior audio signal called GGwave, and no one knew what they were talking about.
What is Gibberlink Mode?
Gibberlink Mode was created to assist in making communication faster and more efficient between AI systems. The communication utilizes audio signals, a system called GGwave, to transmit data between AI systems. Giberlink is a real language that was designed by software engineers Boris Starkov and Anton Pidkuiko to make communication more efficient between AI systems. Although this language was created by humans, this language is incomprehensible to us, posing some risks and challenges.
Why is this scaring people on the internet?
Human are under the assumption that technology exists to serve our needs, but what happens when technology starts communicating with each other and we cannot understand it?
When AI operates behind a black box of machine to machine communication, how are we able to ask the right questions?
Who is accountable when AI makes a mistake in an environment where human intervention is minimal?
Should we put limits to how independent AI can be?
Curiosity and Regulation are Integral to Excelling in the AI Era
While advancements like Gibberlink offer a glimpse into the future, they require oversight, regulation, and testing to prevent safety risks. We have to foster environments where people can ask themselves how they use AI in decision making, what our assumptions are about AI and how to test it, nand how to ensure that AI remains a tool that amplifies human intelligence rather than replacing it.
The emergence of Gibberlink signifies a future where AI autonomy will become the norm, where the balance between efficiency and transparency will continually be challenged, and where we will need more regulation and monitoring systems to ensure AI behaviors align with human intentions and safety.
